Apple strudel

Apple strudel. My family recipe is a typical
dessert that my mom is ussually make during fall and winter time. My Dad has so much fresh apples in his garden that are great for baking. When l was a child we never had a Sunday without dessert. It was a must after a good meal , with Pasta and meat, to have delicious dessert too. If the sweet was with fruit inside it become an healthy excuse to eat.

Little History

Apple strudel. Family recipe is popular in north of Italy.the region of Trentino-Alto Adige, which borders Austria.
The word strudel came from a German word and it means “vortex” is a rolled or stuffed pastry that can be sweet or salty, but in its best known version it is sweet made with apples, pine nuts, raisins and cinnamon.
This dessert is a popular pastry in Austria, Bavaria and in many other countries in Europe too. The origin cames belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Typical characteristics

The apple strudel is called in Italian “Strudel di mele” , there are different recipes , who makes with shortcrust pastry or who make with puff pastry. There are recipe with other types of fruit: pears, apricots, berries.
Apples, raisins, cinnamon, walnuts or pine nuts, lemon juice, breadcrumbs are those typically used for the traditional Apple Strudel. I used this most common ingredients in my recipe too.

Apple strudel

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 35 minutes
Total Time: 55 minutes

Ingredients

  • For the dough
  • πŸ‘‡
  • 2 cups of all propose flour
  • 4 tbsp Corn oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 eggs inside
  • 1 egg yolk to brush over
  • 1 tbsp limoncello or lemon flavour
  • For the inside
  • πŸ‘‡
  • 3 Apple medium
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1/2 cup rainsis
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 lemon juice
  • 1 tsp limoncello
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

HOW MAKE THE DOUGH


Add the ingredients for the dough the mixer and work until became a uniform ball . Covered with plastic wrap, in the refrigerator for about an hour.

THE STUFFING

Peel the apples and cut small, put them into a bowl and add all the other ingredients.
Leave to rest untill the dough is ready, so that all the flavors blend together.

Let’s make the Apple strudel! Final part

With the use of a rolling pin roll out the dough to form a thin rectangle. use a silicone base or parchment paper to facilitate closing. Add the ingredients to the center of the dough vertically. Close the dough on all or sides. Brush with egg red so that it turns golden

Apple Strudel

Bake for 35 – 40 minutes, until golden brown. 

Serve warm or at room temperature.
You can put powered sugar on the top or whipped cream

Your strudel can be stored in container in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh for up to 2 days.
